In February of 2015, my boyfriend and I traveled to Vietnam for 10 days. During these 10 days, we visited Ho Chi Minh city, Cat Tien national park, Hoi An, Hue, and Hanoi. Our very first day in Vietnam, we kicked off our trip with a tour on Vietnam Vespa Adventures with the Glimpse of the Mekong tour. On this tour, my boyfriend and I met up with a few of our other friends, and had a fabulous time. It really was one of the highlights of my whole Vietnam vacation. You start the day being picked up on a vespa scooter and being brought to the Vietnam Vespa Adventure's cafe in Saigon. There, they offered us refreshments and we waited for the rest of our group to arrive, and paid for our trip. After all of our friends had arrived, we set off on the vespa scooters (riding on the back) to go to the outskirts of Saigon where we could get our own scooters. Because there are so many scooters in Ho Chi Minh and the streets are very busy, they do not want you riding on a scooter until you get out of the city for safety reasons. This was great for me because it had been a few years since I had ridden a scooter so I wanted time to practice and see if I would be good enough to ride one. We got to the owner's house, where he stores the companies scooters for Saigon. There, we were able to pick out our scooters and test them out to see which ones we wanted to ride or if we wanted to drive one on our own. Only two people in our group decided to drive a scooter (you can pick a vespa or non-vespa scooter), and the rest of our group rode on the back of the tour guide's scooters since they didn't feel experienced enough to ride on their own. From there, we set off on our tour. Throughout the day, we crossed over many small tributaries and rivers of the Mekong river delta, and got to get out of the city and explore the countryside. It was quite fun getting to ride a scooter again and explore some areas of Vietnam that tourists usually don't go to. We stopped several times, once for coffee/early morning drinks, and a few other times to check out the sights or to learn about the farms that we were passing. At the farthest point from Saigon, we got to a small village market where we stopped and explored, and had a small, delicious snack of drinks, clams and scallops, and fruit. After riding a bit more after our snack, we arrived at our final destination of this beautiful outdoor restaurant where they brought us a delicious meal of Vietnamese noodles, fried rice, vegetable wraps, and alcoholic refreshments. The food we had on the tour was some of the best food we had our whole time during the trip, and it was nice that we got pretty much unlimited drinks. If you have an adventurous side, are interested in seeing the more rural side of Saigon and the Mekong river delta, and love delicious food, I highly recommend this tour. It was well worth the money, and all of the staff the whole day were great.
